Let's meet at 11:00am.
We don't play until Noon on Saturday, however the team we will be playing will have started playing at 10:50am--already warmed up!
Brad had the good idea that we show up earlier than normal this Saturday, so we don't play disadvantaged and semi-arthritic.
So let's meet at 11:00am so we have time to get in some good BP too on one of the empty fields.
Also, maybe we should be thinking about food too. If we win our first game, then we'll have an hour and twenty minute break until the second game. We could grab food then, or if someone wants to organize some type of grilling that would work too. If we lose the first, but win the second, we'll play straight through til 3:20pm.
I don't know about you, but I'll be eating sandwiches at second base if that is the case.

All Star Recap
Due to another team not being able to send an all-star player, we were offered the chance to send two! So Jonathan joined Matt E. for the all-star game, and the Donkeys were well-represented.
Check out Matt's "sensational" fielding mention in the All-Star Summary!

More Award Polls
I changed my mind!
I'm going to make this a bit more democratic and open up the first 3 awards to a team vote. The Golden Gloves are still open for public voting, but the other 3 awards will be player-votes only (anybody who has played a game this season for our team can do so).
The awards are self-explanatory. "Most Improved" can mean improved over the course of this season, or from last season to this one.
One vote only on the first three polls. Up to four votes each for the golden gloves.
We've had 21 players/subs on our team this year so that is the max number of votes for the MVP, MIP, and Rookie polls.

Awards! Vote!
Hey Team,
There happen to be a number of awards to give out each season. No, it's not something that you can hold or frame on a wall that is made out of gold. But it is a little digital image that will appear on a player's profile on the nscsl website. And that is permanent, so it's better! I suppose you could print out your player's profile page and hang that in your office if you like. That would work too.
Anyway, the awards to be given this year are:
1. Most Valuable Player
2. Rookie of the Year
3. Most Improved Player
4-6. Golden Glove (3 of these!)
I'll pick the first three, and we'll do another fancy poll for the three golden glove awards. Vote for up to 4 players, and top 3 get the golden (well, digital) gloves. Voting is open to both players and our fans, which are many.
The poll ends Saturday. Awards announced on Sunday.

Fall Ball
Anybody interested in playing Fall league this year? We've never played in the fall as of yet, but coaches from the other two BBC teams informed me that they could some extra players to round out their teams, if we don't have a full one.
Comment here or contact me if you are interested. Registration might be too late for a new team at this point, so speak up soon.
Details are here. Basically it is 6 weeks of double-headers starting at the end of August (except labor day weekend) at Pioneer Park in Little Canada. It will probably cost somewhere between $30-40 depending on roster size.

Playoffs Update
Looks like we'll be starting at Noon, this Saturday and will play 2-3 games, ending by 3:20 at the latest. Sunday could start as early as 1:30 and go until as late as 8:20 (but probably 7:10). There really aren't that many games on Sunday, just 2 or 3 likely. If we win our Saturday games, we won't start until 3:50 on Sunday.
Check out the bracket details here.
Can everybody make it that hasn't informed me otherwise as of yet? I have 11 guys at this point.

2009 NSCSL Playoffs
The playoff brackets are being formed and are available to be viewed here. Brackets will be finalized after this Sunday's games. For now it looks like Saturday, Aug 1st will be at Central Park, starting at 10:50am, and going until about 3:30 (3-4 games).
Sunday afternoon will be at Pioneer Park where they have fields-for-grown-ups with 300-foot fences. Sunday games will start as early as 1:30 and go possibly as late as 8:30.
Keep these dates open, but respond if you can't make it!

Sack Race Might Be in Order
I just received the disappointing word from the league director that the All-Star team roster will be cut from 15 down to 12 this year. That means each team will now only send ONE player. Seeing as there is currently a voting tie between the Erickson and the Parnell, this could be interesting if it continues.
What are your tie-breaker ideas?

Calling all All-Stars
If neither of last game nights rain out, then Sunday, July 26th will be the 2nd annual NSCSL All-Star game. Since we are in the top 3 of our division, we get to send TWO guys this year. Solid.
So, place your vote in the little poll thingy on the side of the page. Vote for 2 or 3 team members by this Sunday afternoon, so I can submit the names to the director. I understand this voting procedure is not at all air-tight, but it's the best I can do at the moment. If I see 500 votes for Cache, I might get suspicious and go for plan B, which would be a sack-race.
Also, I'm opening this poll up to the public, to our many fans.
FYI, I will be on vacation during the all-star game, so don't waste your votes on me. However, I will definitely use a vote for myself for self-esteem's sake. Feel free to do the same.
If you are also unavailable or would like to be removed from eligibility, let me know.

Blog now on NSCSL site
I've managed to weasel the blog into the BBC III team page, (no need to go to two places). It is shrunk down a bit to fit, but hopefully later will be fine-tuned.

here's a glimpse.
This is where you could find Parnell if he hadn't just hit another over the fence.

Matt wondering if his in-the-park homer will be counted as such.

Here's Brad getting a piece of one

Loren too...

...and Lance about to do the same

Bradley gets to two...

Cache rounds two...

Cache after his HR.

I'll hopefully get the camera out earlier next time.

It's (finally) Lonely at the Top
Last night, Grace Roseville III suffered a much-needed loss to Hope Community IV, thereby giving up their tie with the DJKs for the 1st place slot in the coveted NSCSL D-League.
I'd say that's good news.

The Official Blog of the Donkey Jawbone Killers is Here
What does every church D-league softball team really need? That's right--a blog of course. I know you've all been wondering when such a great idea would be implemented, and that wait is over (just two game nights from the end of the 2009 season, mind you). I had tried uploading pictures to the regular nscsl.org site, but they ended up in a place hard to find. I considered a facebook group, but I think that might leave some of you non-facebookers out. For now, an old-fashioned blog is in order. So...
Welcome to the Official Blog of The Bethlehem Baptist Donkey Jawbone Killers softball team (this is very exciting).
Here's the place where we can post game pictures, recaps, impressive injury photos, general game/team communications, fiery debates, softball-themed poetry (limited please), your dreams of hitting the big leagues, theologies on softball...anything really.
Anyone on the team is invited to write. Comment on the post or shoot me an email if you'd like to be added as a writer at anytime so you can make a post. Otherwise leave comments.
Don't be shy.
Hee-haw.
